The Florida v. Harris was a case addressed by the Supreme Court determining if a certified police dog's sniff was was constituted by the 4th admendment. An officer and his police dog were on patrol when they stopped a car for a traffic violation and the dog smelt narcotics on the passenger side. The man was read his rights and taken in. It was asked at the trial wether or not the officer was allowed to search the veichle because of what the dog smelt, and if the dog's sense could be trusted. I believe that a drug detection dog can't be trusted even if certified and trained, because of the fact that 80% of dogs alerts are wrong. Although this time a dog was correct, I feel as if they are ineffective at what they do and should not be trusted when sniffing around a car. I believe that Harris should have won, even though the jury came back with a decision against him.
Syrian Refugees have been an ongoing topic that people have been talking about for the last 6 months. Over a thousand refugees have been resettled here in the U.S. Many states said no to helping the refugees resettle due to the possibility that an ISIS member could have gotten into the country pretending to be a refugee. ISIS is an Islamic state in Syria which is a terrorist group. This topic has gotten much attention and continues to do so.
A story that has gotten a lot of national attention is Bruce Jenner's transition into a female. Her name is now Kaitlyn Jenner. I heard about this story from many sources including a TV interview with Diane Sawyer. The interview was on E. Kaitlyn claims that she felt as if she has been a women all her life. I think it is wonderful that she now lives as her true self.

in late 2015 a strange light was spotted flying over southern California, within minutes millions of people used social media to advertise their theories. Almost all of them included Aliens, UFO's and more other-worldly overloads. if you're rational, you may be one of the few people who took the time to investigate and learn what caused the seemingly 'UFO'. One government source stated it was just a comet, nothing more than a celestial object made entirely of dust. Well, that wasn't an exceptional answer for the Alien Enthusiasts out there. After many twitter trends and hashtags consisting of Anti-Comet claims, another government source reluctantly admitted to a secret missile testing. The public was never informed of this potentially dangerous trial, for unbeknownst reasons.
An innocent 14 year old Muslim American, Ahmed Mohamed, was arrested at Macarthur high school in Irving, Texas for bringing a hoax bomb to school. The "bomb" turned out to be an engineering project that Mohamed had worked on over the weekend to impress his engineering teacher. Mohamed had taken apart a clock and rebuilt it inside a pencil case which he was carrying in a small briefcase. The family of the teen boy threatened sue the City of Irving and the school district for civil rights violations unless they were presented with an apology letter and $15 million.

One memorable news story came out last year prior to the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots were under investigation by the NFL for using deflated footballs in a game against the Indianapolis Colts. This wasn't the first time that the franchise was investigated for cheating during the season. Ted Wells led the investigation and in conclusion found the Patriots guilty of deflating the footballs. However, the evidence against the Patriots was not substantial enough to prove all accusations made in the report.
Great job with all the interesting stories! We will discuss them in class tomorrow. Next blog will be about media bias so start googling interesting examples:)
Media bias is the way a journalist or certain media covered a topic. Political bias is very big in the world. Especially between Fox and CNN news, both are major political networks. Fox being mostly republican and CNN being mostly democrat. A huge topic is the Benghazi Scandal involving Hillary Clinton, and while Fox goes against her, and say she knew about the emails, CNN agrees with Hillary. Many people have different opinions, but these two news channels can have a huge impact on the way someone thinks. Hillary has and still is being investigated for this incident, but I believe she is to powerful and not enough evidence to be able to convict her.
Something that has gotten a lot of attention is Bruce Jenner's sexual transition into a female she refers to herself now as Kaitlyn Jenner, this story has been told around the world from the news to magazines to simple Twitter beef along with many sources including some interviews on fox Jenner stated that he/she idk what to call him at this point has felt that He has been a women all his life. I think it is odd changing yourself sexually wanting to be a whole mother person but that is just my opinion if it makes her happy then so be it
The Heroin epidemic on Long Island has gotten worse over the past years. Many young people are becoming addicted to it, and it is cheap to buy. There have been many deaths due to heroin, especially in young people. People always ask about why people don't stop, but it is extremely addictive. I know people who said friends of theirs life has changed because they do Heroin. Hopefully law enforcement can find a way to crack down on this heroin issue and end it. News 12 has covered this epidemic allot.
